Cannabis and Consciousness Study
We are searching for individuals who inhale (smoke, vape, dab, etc.) cannabis at least once per week, to participate in an exciting online study of the effects of cannabis on verbal consciousness.
To participate, you must:
- Use cannabis regularly (at least once per week)
- Be aged between 19 and 50 years old.
- Live in North America
- Not have any daily nicotine use in the past 3 months.
- Not be receiving treatment for psychotic disorder or bipolar disorder.
- Not be pregnant
- Be proficient at reading and speaking English.
If you participate, you will:
- undergo two 1.5 hour online sessions consisting of a few online assessments of consciousness
- inhale your own cannabis at one of the sessions
- receive $40 CAD for participation in both sessions

NEURAL DYNAMICS OF SPONTANEOUS THOUGHT GENERATION: AN MRI STUDY
Are you an avid meditator? Ever wonder what goes on in your brain when this is happening? Us too! We are currently recruiting participants for an MRI study that investigates the brain activity associated with the arising of spontaneous thought during meditation.
To participate, you must have:
- 500+ hours of lifetime meditation experience in Vipassana, Zen, insight, or mindful awareness
- Normal or corrected-to-normal vision
- Proficiency in reading English
- No MRI contraindications (screening provided)
- No ongoing psychiatric medication use other than for depression/anxiety (screening provided)
If you participate, you will:
- undergo a 1.5-hour MRI scanning session at the UBC MRI Centre that includes structural and functional (brain activity) scanning—see below for examples
- undergo a 1.5-hour practice session at the UBC Psychology department up to two days before MRI scanning
- receive $70 for your participation
- receive images of your brain
